Spring for Sales

January is retail heaven for the sale shopper... But it's not just crazy old ladies stocking up on discount Christmas ornaments for next year. There are some real bargains out there... And the best kind are the ones that will carry into spring... So check out my favorite markdowns and start stocking up for warm weather.
A simple trench works well for transition weather... And this Pleated Trench Coat by Victor and Rolf is far from a boring classic. (Plus, it's 65% off...) Pair it with this spring's full florals to cut the sweetness factor or mix and match it with more masculine safari-inspired items.

If you've always been wary of prints and color, this spring is the time to step out of your comfort zone. To ease into the new look, try muted colors and abstract patterns, like this Rebecca Taylor Pleated Multi-Color V-Neck Blouse.

Simple and stylish, these Lanvin V Strap Sandals will last for seasons to come. So splurge while they are on sale, and save them for April, when a full-price version will surely be gracing the shelves at Barney's.

Barney's Shoe Sale!

Shoe fanatics rejoice!!! Designer shoe mecca, Barney's, has started their shoe sale early!! Get up to 40% off on a bunch of fabulous fall footwear. So forget buying that present for your boyfriend, your mom, whoever.... because a swoon-worthy pair of Manolos is calling your name.
Sexy strappy sandals are season-less when paired with tights. Wear these coppery-gold Pierre Hardy Python Wedges with opaque black tights for a glam 70's feel. I love the delicately knotted strap.

A slim sexy heel makes these quirky Miu Miu Chic Ruffle Pumps more then just demure. Pair them with a sheath dress or pencil skirt to add some oomph to any old office outfit.

The square toe is totally making a comeback... So jump ahead of the curve in these Pierre Hardy Foldover Platform Knee Boots.

Mid-Season Sales

Now is the time for smart spending. So go write up your Christmas list or just splurge on yourself, because pre-holiday sales are popping up everywhere. eLuxury, Barneys, Neimans, Saks, Shopbop, and Net-A-Porter are all having pretty amazing mid-season markdowns.
Here's the best of the bunch...
Kate Moss wannabes rejoice! These ChloƩ Cuffed Suede Tall Boots exude her laid-back brand of chic. Pair them with opaque tights and cozy knit dresses or just throw them on over your favorite pair of jeans.

For cozy sweaters at contemporary designer prices, no one does it better than Vince. And this Cowl-Neck Dress might seem boring, but it's a wardrobe basic that will take you well into winter.

Long messenger bag straps are a great look this fall. But beyond the trends, this Gryson Taylor Saddle Handbag is a great standby that will last years. Interesting shapes and delicate hardware keep things subtle and a smaller designer name prevents that 'so last season' mentality.

Really want to hone your shopping smarts? Think resort... If you are planning on heading somewhere warm over Christmas, now is the best time to sort through the left-over summer merchandise. Otherwise you'll end up wading through racks of holiday sweaters while dreaming of last season's Christian Louboutin Laced Espadrilles.

Threadless!

Threadless.com, the coolest t-shirt shop on the web is having a sale on hoodies! (Every hoodie is only $25, today until midnight!) And if you've never visited threadless before, go check out the t-shirts as well. Their quirky and fun website is actually a t-shirt design competition. Anyone can submit their own design. The designs are then rated (by dedicated web addicts, like you and me) and then the cream of the crop get printed and sold on the site. All are limited editions and way cooler than any vintage-y shirts you might find at Urban Outfitters. I love this appropriately titled "Biggie Was Right" tee, but you pick your favorite... (Procrastinators beware, you could browse the awesome designs on this site for hours before realizing you have work to do...)

Oh, and note to windy city residents... Threadless recently opened a boutique up on Ravenswood at W. Irving Park. So if instant gratification is more your thing than online shopping, go check it out.

Shopbop End of Summer Sale

To make your end of summer shopping easier, I have filtered through shopbop.com's enormous 80 page collection of sale items. Here is the cream of the crop, with everything from jewelry to jeans.

I love this silky layered tunic by Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent. The stripe detail adds a structured feel, and it will be great to wear under a menswear-ish shrunken blazer or cropped leather jacket for fall. Was: $249 Now: $124.50

J Brand makes some great jeans, from basics to skinny. But I love the retro feel of these 10" Ankle Skinny Stretch Jeans. They look great with heels or flats and will look adorable when you are bundled up for fall with just a little ankle peeking out. Was $159 Now: $79.50

These Loeffler Randall Mazzy Flats are saccharine sweet with a bit of edge. Wear them with a summery tunic dress or cute skinny jeans come fall. Was: $335 Now: $235.50

This Kooba Phoebe Clutch is a great basic that will take you from work to play and can match almost any outfit. Gold hardware on a simple black clutch can be hard to find, and the seaming and hardware details on this clutch are far from boring. Was: $295 Now: $206.50

Earrings are always a fun way to update a simple outfit that has been worn before. And these funky Willow Earrings by Gorjana will be a great alternative to classic but kinda boring hoops. Was: $85 Now: $59.50

Summer Sale at Intermix

Summer sales are a tricky business.... Buy one of those Prada-inspired turbans that were so hot this spring and you will look dated come next year, but choose wisely and you can find great basics and unique pieces that will still look fresh this fall and even next spring.

This Simon Sebbag Designs Arced Bangle will look great for fall. Toughen up a feminine top and pair it with some hot new wide-legged pants or wear it with a tunic-y dress. Was: $225 Now: $99.

This Theory Trench Coat is a classic piece that you will wear season after season. And if you ever get bored of this old stand-by, just change the buttons or get a contrasting belt. These alterations can be done easily by your tailor for cheap or even on your own... Was: $495 Now: $319

This Silk Charmeuse Tuxedo Bib Cami would be great with a pencil skirt, blazer and sophisticated pumps for work. Or throw on a cropped a-line jacket, some bangles and a pair skinny black pants and heels for going out... Was: $298 Now: $179
