Star Style: Cameron Diaz

Seen: Cameron Diaz looking simply chic as she leaves dinner. So if you are tan and leggy and thin enough to pull off this look, check out how to below...

Lily McNeal's Cherry Scoop Back Sweater Dress adds curves to an otherwise boyish figure with a slim belt. Lost that summer tan? Try a similar look in a different color. Beige will wash you out.

Sophisticated maryjanes add some polish to the more casual dress. But remember, ankle straps make legs appear shorter, so stick to styles where the strap hits lower, like these Valentino Patent Mary Janes. Or for something less pricey, try N.Y.L.A.'s 'Valerie' Pump.

I heart this Carlos Falchi Crocodile Envelop Clutch. But... it is a little cost-prohibitive. Any large black clutch will do, but for a little animal magnetism, try Jill Stuart's Croc-Embossed Francesca Clutch.

Add some bangles, and a leopard print scarf and you have Cam's outfit, piece by piece... But remember, what works for her, may not work for you, so pick the pieces you like and incorporate them into your own wardrobe.

Solved: Your Worst Fashion Emergency

Mustard stain? Revealing rip? Angry that Chatty Cathy showed up in the same dress you bought last week? Whatever your problem, you now have a solution so simple, you'll wonder why no one did it before... The fabulous Diane vonFurstenberg has come up with a all-in-one Fashion Emergency Kit. Hidden in a chic DVF garment bag are one of her classic wrinkle-free black wrap dresses and a matching thong. Add some shoes and you will have a new outfit so stylish that everyone forget about your worst fashion faux-pas.

Anatomy of an Outfit: Winter White

Wearing white after labor day is a tricky business... Not because it's against the rules, (it's not) but because you have to pair it with fabrics, colors and cuts that make it season-appropriate. My favorite new way to wear it? Skinny white jeans, paired with layers of cozy black knits and some sexy black boots. But beware... this look is not for the faint-hearted (or those over a size 6.)
So go find the white jeans you stashed at the back of your closet... Don't have a pair left over from summer?? These Levi's Skimmer Jeans are on sale for $58.98.

Then pick any of these cozy cardigans and throw it over a comfy black long-sleeved tee. Add a belt if things get too slouchy and a scarf if it's really chilly. But remember, the look is loose to balance out the proportion of those drainpipe white jeans...

And lastly.... add some black boots. Booties or knee-highs. Either works. Grab a slouchy black bag, and then head for the door, because you have one absolutely fabulous, totally put together, surprisingly simple, fun fall outfit.

It's a Man's World

Balenciaga Fall '07

Even though I'm all for the strong womanly silhouettes that stomped down the runways this fall, androgynous pieces lend a nonchalant cool to fall suiting. Throw in feminine pieces, like a tie-neck blouse, or a funky ethnic scarf (a la Balenciaga Fall '07) to keep things balanced.

Vintage brass buttons and a tie-silk lined collar make things interesting in this otherwise traditional Wool Hacking Jacket.

These Alice + Olivia Boy Trousers are a great fall basic that will stretch your wardrobe way beyond this season. Pair them with a fitted top and a slouchy blazer. And unless you are of model-esque stature, slip on heels, not flats.

Lace-up oxfords are one trend whose life-expentancy I am not prepared to predict, but if you find a pair you love, why not?? These Guillaume Hinfray Asi Booties have a great shape... I love the rounded toe and stacked cone heel.

Tweedy menswear fabrics look great when matched with glossy patent trim like in this Michael Kors Large Belted Satchel. And the structured shape will look great with more feminine fall looks as well.

Dressing Dilemmas: Monday Morning Edition

Some people lay out their clothes for the next day the night before, some wait to see what they feel like in the morning, others (ahem) lay awake at night, mentally going through their closet as if their brains were wired the same way as Cher's closet. But no matter which option you choose, putting together an outfit is hard work... So to help you all out... Here are my picks for the day.

I love the gold buttons on this J.Crew's cardi, especially layered over something more feminine, like the Generra Ribbed Ruffle Top. Pair it with your favorite jeans (for class) or some Alice + Olivia Boy Trousers (for work,) a structured brown bag with gold hardware, some gold jewelry, and and a classic brown shoe, and you are set for the most frustrating Monday mornings...

For a really fashion forward look, try an adding an unexpected color... Purple and green contrast in such an amazing way. And these gorgeous Giambattista Valli Suede Peep-Toe Slingbacks would peek out perfectly from under the hem of wide leg trousers...

Back to Black

Fashion dilemma... It's Thursday night and you are getting ready to go out. You've decided that you want to wear your brand new doo.ri knotted jersey tank with some of your favorite straight-leg jeans. Throw on your chunky gold cuff and your classic wear-with-everything Miu Miu platform slingbacks.

Now the hard part... Which purse? You scan your closet for a small black handbag with gold hardware and nada. How can you not have a simple black handbag? The purse makes an outfit!! What were you thinking?? To avoid this problem every time you are about to walk out the door... Invest in one of these...

This Marc Jacobs Mix Quilted Chic Handbag is small enough to wear when you go out, but still has a nice long strap so you don't have to worry about holding onto it. And I love the gold chain and push-lock closure.

Don't like the long chain, but still love Marc Jacobs? Try the Christina Leather Shoulder Bag. The black patchwork leather is a a great departure from last years quilted Stam bag(which has officially been knocked off too many times to count.) And I love the hammered gold hardware.

For a similar look at a much lower price, check out this Nina Small Shoulder Bag by Kooba.

For the most bang for you buck, get a clutch without ANY hardware. This Lauren Merkin Sadie Textured Lambskin clutch is big enough to fit more than just a cell phone and a wallet. And then you can use this all-purpose bag with any outfit.
