Belated New Years Resolutions

Now... I may not subscribe to the belief that the change in the calendar year will change your life, but cold dreary January days are good for nothing if not hours of introspection and new year/new you self-improvement fantasies. So instead of vowing to eat more veggies or balancing my checkbook, I have decided (a few weeks late) that instead, I pledge to stop slacking and start posting! More fashion news, more favorite finds, more fab pictures and best of all, more advice and insight from yours truly...
And if there's anything else you think I'm missing, let me know!!! Although some may assume otherwise, I am not here on some vain ego trip... I am here to help you.... After years of watching customers and clients struggle to find the right clothes for their looks, their life and their budget, I decided to put all my advice in one place (and hope that I get fewer Saturday evening emergency "What should I wear?" phone calls.) So for all my paying clients and those who just read the site for free, thanks for sticking with me this far. This year will bring big changes for Fashion Dogma... So I hope you enjoy them :)

Recovering from a long holiday weekend....

Hey boys and girls... After a nice week-long break, I am back and geared up for that big retailer/consumer orgy we all know as holiday shopping season. They want you to buy stuff, you want to buy stuff, everyone is happy as long as the money's there... So I will be coming out with some fabulous gift guides and more fun fashion tips. So keep checking back!!

Weekly Roundup 11/11 - 11/18

Liv Tyler Edition

  • Purple looks great on pale-faced beauties like Liv Tyler. So shop it up.
  • We all knew Sharon Stone was on the crazy side, but a stretch bodysuit? Wearing one of those things is like asking for camel-toe.
  • Rihanna sexes it up in over the knee boots. Can't handle it? Try her cute Madison Marcus coat instead...
  • Political bumper stickers may be no big deal, but would you wear your candidate on your sleeve?
  • Started holiday shopping yet? Fashion books make fab gifts... But buy something for yourself while you're at it... Wide leg jeans? A watch maybe? Can't afford it on your own? E-mail the link for my site to your sugar daddy.. (or mom, or boyfriend, whatever... They will be glad to have the suggestions.)

Would You Wear It?

Wearing your heart on your sleeve is one thing... But would you broadcast your political ties on your tee? Urban Outfitters is banking on the fact that you might, by selling their trademark vintage-esque tees featuring your fave presidential hopefuls. So if you're 'Hilary's homegirl...' go for it. Just don't blame me when you get verbally assaulted by random passers-by. These tees will invite more comments than walking around with a 'talk to me' sign attached to your forhead...

Tote Taboos

You all know how I feel about fakes... They are tacky, trashy, and an inexcusable fashion faux-pas. There are so many adorable and reasonably priced handbags out there. Why try passing off a canal street imitation for the real thing? And while look-a-likes may not be much better, I try not to be judgmental and usually look the other way. But why anyone would pay $1000 bucks for a blatant rip-off is beyond me...On the left is YSL's popular Medium Downtown Tote. It sells for $1,595 . (Blame the Euro.) And on the right is Giorgio Brato's Large Tote. It may be missing some hardware, but the unusual shape and the vertical zippers are taken straight from YSL's playbook. And this knockoff's price tag? $979.

The Ultimate Compliment

Roberto Cavalli got clever with his costume at his Halloween party at NY's Cipriani... I'm sure his contemporary, the fabulous Karl Lagerfeld was flattered... Do you think Cavalli makes a good Karl? I think he's adorable...

Solved: Your Worst Fashion Emergency

Mustard stain? Revealing rip? Angry that Chatty Cathy showed up in the same dress you bought last week? Whatever your problem, you now have a solution so simple, you'll wonder why no one did it before... The fabulous Diane vonFurstenberg has come up with a all-in-one Fashion Emergency Kit. Hidden in a chic DVF garment bag are one of her classic wrinkle-free black wrap dresses and a matching thong. Add some shoes and you will have a new outfit so stylish that everyone forget about your worst fashion faux-pas.

Halloween 101

Heidi Klum at her annual costume gala...
Some people start thinking about Halloween weeks ahead of schedule. I am not one of those people... I always end up punking out and picking something not so fabulous at the last minute. (And then I am super-envious of all those other gals who thought ahead...) But this year I am determined to make up my mind sometime before this weekend...
So, to help myself, (and all those other lost souls out there) here are some fun links for some great (and not so great) costume ideas...

Shop for the Cure

This weekend, Saks Fifth Avenue is supporting breast cancer awareness month by donating 2% of all sales to local and national women's cancer charities. So if you've been waiting for the right moment to make that big purchase... now is it. (I'm thinking about these Christian Louboutin Patent Leather Booties....What do you think?) Want to support the cause without spending big bucks? Get the limited edition Juicy Couture Key to The Cure Tee. It's only $35, and 100% of the proceeds benefit the Women's Cancer Research Fund.

But Saks isn't the only one showing their pink side this month. Bloomies has its own Little Pink Boutique. And Nordstrom has a bunch of fun pink items as well. So go buy a gift for your mom, your sis or yourself. Here are my favorites...
C&C's comfy knit tank gets a pink makeover in this Breast Cancer Ribbon Classic Tank.

I love Philosophy's bath products (and their cheeky titles...) So try this citrus-y 'Shower for the Cure' Pink Ribbon Shower Gel because 100% of the proceeds go to the Women's Cancer Research Fund.

And don't forget Ralph Lauren's preppy Pink Pony gear... I like this Polo Match Top. But the Cashmere Crewneck is pretty luxe as well...

Coach didn't want to miss out on all the pink fun either. So check out their cheeky keychains and this Bridle Classic Watch.

Cozy sleepwear never looked so good. These cashmere separates from White+Warren are so comfy you won't want to take them off...

I could go on and on and on... There are so many great charitable products out there.... So here are a few more... And look online, check out Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, get educated, get involved, and hey... if you get some cute clothes on the way, all the better.

Muppet Maven

I have respect for avant-garde fashion like no other, but sometimes you just have to sit back and have a giggle at their expense... Fashion, like life, can't be taken too seriously. So enjoy... Here's Posh looking sublimely happy to be dressed up as Big Bird in Paris for an Elle photoshoot.

Cheeky Chanel

Leave it to the master Karl Lagerfeld to find inspiration in the most unusual places... Seen on the Chanel Spring '08 runway?? These cheeky mini ankle purses. (Apparently we weren't the only ones to notice those alcohol monitoring anklets seen on every celebrity from Lindsay to Eve.) So instead of staying sober, here's a new place to hide your stash... (honestly, what else are you going to put there??)

Billion Dollar Babes

Great fashion and great deals don't often intersect. But if you hate paying full price for designer brands like Cynthia Rowley, Fendi, Jimmy Choo, Joe's Jeans, Mint, Miu Miu, Sass & Bide, Tracy Reese, and Trovata, (Should I keep going?? I could...) you should sign up for Billion Dollar Babes. They host events in L.A., San Fran, Chicago, Dallas, London, Dublin and of course, New York multiple times a year. Some feature a single designer, like Catherine Malandrino (in LA Oct. 11 and 12,) while others include multiple lines. And unlike most sample sales, you don't have to grab and go. They have real changing rooms, and take credit cards. So get on their mailing list (they keep it private, don't worry) and wait for the invite to let you know when their traveling show is coming to a town near you... Source
