Mourning Summer's End

Planning on hitting up a big Labor Day BBQ this weekend? Going to the beach? Maybe the pool? No matter what your plans, enjoy the last throes of summer... Because slowly but surely, the weather changes and so do our wardrobes. I'm not imposing any dogmatic rules like no white after labor day, but out of respect to the impending autumnal equinox, let's take a moment of silence for summer's end, New York Times style, in basic black.

This youthful Juicy Couture Stretch Wool Shift can be worn by women of almost any age... The scoop neck is flattering without being revealing and the cap sleeves give more coverage than a basic shift. Think it's on the short side? Pair it with opaque black tights.

Twinkle by Wenlan makes really fun, quirky clothes and this All Tied Up Top is no exception. The asymmetrical neckline and sleeve detail take this basic black tank to another level. Wear it with gray trousers for a more professional look.

Sick of wearing your old peacoat for every occasion? Try a leather jacket to switch things up. This Theory Leather jacket has classic bomber feel. And the ribbed collar is removable which makes it a great layering piece. Also check out the jackets by Mike & Chris. Their hoodies are a little more casual but soo much fun.

Some people say black denim is too trendy, but I think it's classic and a great alternative to plain ol' denim. These Rag & Bone Strraight Leg Jeans in Black are mid-rise and have a slight bit of stretch.
