The classic trench is a closet stand-by, a clothing must-have, one of the most important building blocks of any wardrobe... If you don't have one... go buy one! Have I made myself clear? But in all honesty, it really is one of the most versatile pieces you can buy and it immediately adds polish and sophistication to any outfit.

Everyone knows
Burberry makes the most famous trench coat around. And in every color, fabric, and length. If you really want, you can even get fitted for a custom coat at your local Burberry boutique. But I like this
Quilted Leather Trench.

Looking for something a little less serious? Try this fun red
Trina Turk Sterling Coat. Colorful coats are a great way to add variety to your wardrobe. And they are surprisingly easy to wear over almost anything. (Just not pink... You don't want to look like a life-size Valentine.)

My favorite of the bunch is this
Dsquared2 Belted Trench Coat. It's classic and simple, but the traditional double-breasted collar is updated with croc-embossed leather bands. And I love the menswear inspired shoulder flaps.

If you can't afford the steep price tag on Dsquared2, try this
Banana Republic Lady Trench. It's only $228. So throw a
skinny lizard-print belt over it (for only $36) and you have an outfit thats looks way more expensive than it is.
